My Practice & Work
My work as an artist and geographer arises from Practice.
Of stopping to observe, experience & Bear Witness. It is a response to the interwoven polyphonic non-simultaneous events that comprise the time-place. My Responses arise from this effort to stop and to listen to the place itSelf, to make direct contact with and in the One Body; a practice of Right MAP Making for a future to be possible.
YA) the experience of being awake.
I make hand-editioned responses; prints, images, artist books, broadsides & performances; stories hung on argument, whose hero is the experience of the place, whose heroine is the present moment and whose canvas takes you places you've never been and back. I do not make maps I am not a cartographer. I do, however, respond to real place-time events :: experiences.
My work involves fieldwork, repeated visits over periods of time that may extend to a year, and often more. It arises from a need, gathered directly from the original mind in the presence of light, colour, sound, line, shape and movement.
In this manner I understand my work to reflect an act of disobedience on behalf of the world beautiful.
